Short Breaks – Connect and Engage Programme For Children and Young People with Additional Needs ( aged 5 to 11 and 12 to 17 years) and Disabilities in Redcar and Cleveland

Connect and Engage are part of the Short Breaks offer for Redcar and Cleveland. The programme will offer a range of activities for children and young people aged 5 to 11(Engage) an 11to 17 (Connect) years with additional needs or a disability.(1 to 3, 1 to 4 ratio).

The groups will take place at Lingdale Youth Centre, High Street, Lingdale, Saltburn, TS12 3EP on Saturdays during term time from 10am until 2pm. Groups will take place at the same time for Engage and Connect, however different activities will be offered for each age group.

Engage and Connect

Engage – will work with younger children to build social confidence, group engagement and have fun.

Connect – will work on personal and social development based on young people’s needs and interests.

Activities for children and young people who want to take part in social activities, meet new people, improve their confidence and take part in small group activities. Activities will initially be a mixed programme of team building, arts and crafts, physical activities/sports, cooking, and games to develop confidence. We will listen to feedback from children, young people and families taking part and inform the future programme of activities based on needs and interests of the group, activities may include:

The service is free of charge.

 

All children and young people attending will be offered refreshments and a snack, that they can take part in making if they choose.

 

Bookings must be made in advance for the service as places are strictly limited.

Self-referral

This service is self-referral so if you would like to join in activities or are the parent of a child wishing to access

Sibling offer

 

For children and young people who have siblings who do not have an additional need or disability, sibling sessions will be held at the same time and venue on a regular basis and a schedule provided for attendees of Connect and Engage.

 

Access and Bookings:

 

Sessions operate term time only on weekends

Assessment of need and Care Plan: Once a referral is made we will make an appointment to do an assessment with the child or young person with their parents or carers – to make sure we have all the information required to meet their needs while in our care.

 

Booking: You will then be able to book on activities as you require through block bookings or single activities. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

 

Attending: Transport is not included, although all activities are free of charge. If you would have a problem accessing due to transport please let us know.

 

Review: We will regularly review the provision and progress made with children, young people and their parents/carers who attend to better inform the service. These will be scheduled regularly.
