Gillian’s Story
Gillian was 14 when she was referred to the young carers project.
She was about to be excluded from school, felt very alone and the burden of being a young carer as well as the additional pressure that she and her family faced were getting Gillian down.
With the support of the young carers project Gillian was supported to change school and was able to achieve good academic results, especially considering what she had been through.
She regularly attended young carers groups and sessions and gradually built confidence, trained as a volunteer and became a “buddy” to other young carers and raises awareness of young carers in the community.
Gillian’s outcomes
Gillian is a confident and capable young women, she has now started work as an apprentice whilst continuing to be fully involved in The Junction and firing up awareness of young carers.
